The Jealousy Cure

Robert L. Leahy

Untangling jealousy from reactive mood swings

Jealousy can intensify when relationships encounter aging, changing desire, past betrayal, or fears about replaceability. Leahy uses cognitive behavioral and emotion-focused strategies to examine interpretations, checking, reassurance seeking, rumination, and controlling behavior. Mood swings may amplify emotional reactivity, but they do not make harmful conduct inevitable or prove a partner is untrustworthy. In later adulthood, the book helps separate feeling from action: name the fear, test the story, tolerate uncertainty, and communicate needs without surveillance or accusation. Jealousy can contain information about attachment and values, yet trust grows only when both partners remain responsible for safety, honesty, and boundaries.
