When Things Fall Apart

Pema Chödrön

Staying present through fear and night sweats

Uncertainty can become unavoidable when health, relationships, work, or identity no longer follow the old plan. Chödrön offers Buddhist teachings on staying present with fear, grief, anger, and groundlessness instead of rushing to make discomfort disappear. Night sweats may need medical assessment and practical treatment; meditation does not remove a hormonal or medical cause. At a point when priorities are shifting, the book offers a different kind of steadiness: notice the urge to escape, soften around the moment, and meet suffering without adding self-judgment. Compassion begins not after life is repaired, but inside the difficult experience already happening.

About Pema Chödrön

Pema Chödrön became a Buddhist nun after divorce and personal crisis disrupted the life she expected. Her teaching voice grew from that experience of groundlessness, joining Tibetan practice with the perspective of a Western mother who had known ordinary family pain.
