Less screen noise for nights shaped by night sweats

When attention has become fragmented across work, family, news, messaging, and habits that no longer feel chosen. Newport proposes a deliberate reset: remove optional technologies, rediscover valuable offline activities, and reintroduce tools only when they clearly serve a purpose. Night sweats may already disrupt rest, making late-night scrolling especially tempting and especially costly. Within the MHS library, the book connects sleep, focus, relationships, and autonomy without demanding total withdrawal from modern life. Its central question is practical rather than purist: which technologies genuinely support the life you value, and which ones quietly consume the time and presence they promised to improve?

About Cal Newport

Cal Newport declined to join Facebook as a Dartmouth student in 2004 and has remained outside major social-media platforms. His critique is therefore unusually lived: he built a technology-focused career while deliberately protecting attention from the systems he studies.
